Having caring parents, Grealy was bought a horse from which she fell completely in love and learned so much. She had to remove half of her jaw, which, as a child, made her a target for all types of bullying and harassment. Luckily enough, she was able to cure it, but it required surgery that changed her life. Grealy was diagnosed with a very rare type of cancer when she was 9, cancer that had an extremely low rate of survival. The memoir tells the story of Grealy and her tough childhood.
